Design Challenge

Missy is a personal care company, specializing in the use of organic & natural ingredients in their menstrual care products.

By rebranding their visual identity and packaging design, the client intended to rethink their brand approach and positioning in order to better reach their target customer by differentiating and improving the appearance of their menstruation pad packaging.

Design Approach & Strategy

We believe that in a packaging design project, design hierarchy and layout are important. That being stated, a great technique to find out where customers’ attention was drawn when they were looking at menstruation pad packaging is to conduct eye-tracking study analysis.

The eye-catching research analysis is the foundation of the creative strategy. In order to grab consumers’ attention within the first three seconds of visual material, we concentrated on information layouting, design element positioning, and visual hierarchy based on the analysis result.

Tools & Techniques Used

Company’s merger successfully brought together a vast network of stores spanning multiple countries, establishing a unified corporate entity. Following the completion of the deal, Company’s leadership made the strategic decision to reshape the company’s.

One significant aspect of the transformation involved the consolidation of the IT organizations of both companies. Prior to the merger, these IT departments had underperformed and lacked prior experience.

Adobe Illustrator for packaging design & rebranding. Blender for 3D modeling, Photoshop for refining visual imagery. We also use qualitative research to identify key focal points of the packaging.

Design Process

Research on competitors’ products and Missy’s current package design is the first step of the process. Next, eye tracking studies and analysis were conducted to determine the most important aspects of menstrual pad packaging that consumers notice first. Based on the results, we developed alternative mood boards and generated concept ideas. Prototyping and customer feedback were then gathered to develop their new packaging design.

Visual Design Solutions

The final design’s rainbow-collared key visuals in all their packaging variants provided a far more eye-catching, unique, yet consistent visual. Key information, like the length and features of the pad, is placed strategically, and the icons have been simplified for easier reading and comprehension. Additionally, we brought attention to the brand logo, which helped the client achieve their goals of increasing shelf appeal and differentiating their product while also guaranteeing brand recognition.

Challenges and Iterations

Although visually appealing, the initial design concepts did not perform well in eye-tracking tests because users missed important information. Iterations concentrated on changing color schemes and key information placement to better focus the user key attention. It took several iterations of testing and improvement to strike a compromise between usability and aesthetic appeal.
